Excellence must be recognized - Governor General

Gov-1Basseterre, St. Kitts, 14th July, 2017 (MyVueNews.com) - Governor General Sir Tapley Seaton said excellence in all of its forms must be recognized, as he officiated at the recently concluded Department of Sports Excellence Awards, hosted at Government House.

 

The 12th July awards ceremony recognized the achievements of young athletes from primary and secondary schools, as well as athletes at the CFB College.

 

Speaking at the well attended occasion, Governor General Sir Tapley said, “I thought that we needed to recognize excellence - Excellence in all of its forms… It is a pleasure to welcome all of you and to commend you all on your excellent performances over the year.”

 

He advised parents and sports officials to encourage the young athletes to keep striving.

 

“Tell them to keep on working. I know that sometimes it may be difficult, but we will provide some of the encouragement to you so that you can do all that you can to ensure that our young people have that activity (sport) and can go out and hold their own locally, regionally and internationally,” Sir Tapley Seaton.

 

Awards were distributed by the Governor General to recipients in the categories of athletics, football, cricket, tennis, and netball, which were among the awards category fields. “It is a pleasure to welcome all of you and to commend you all on your excellent performances over the year.”  

 

Awards were presented to recipients in the categories of Cricket, Football, Tennis, Netball, Volleyball, Basketball and Track and Field.

 

The event was held under the theme, ‘Making a Difference in Sports’.
