Gyptian splits with VP Records

GYPTIAN has severed ties with New York-based indie label VP Records with immediate effect. The reggae singer has been signed to the label since January 2008. He announced his departure via a media release yesterday.

It has been a great journey with special memories made and I'm thankful for all the opportunities, but unfortunately I have decided to part ways with VP Music Group,” the release read.

The release cited contractual disagreements as the reason.

Gyptian (given name Windel Beneto Edwards) indicated he would now be releasing music under his label, Ryte Dyrekshan Records.

“It's time I get back to doing what I love which is making music, and time for my fans to hear from me again so I can get on the road and see them. They've been asking and begging for new music, time to make that happen,” the release continued.

Gyptian's albums include My Name is Gyptian (2006); I Can Feel Your Pain (2008); Hold You (2010); and Sex, Love and Reggae (2013), which debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Chart.
