Carty Leads Anguilla To First LICB 50 Overs Victory

bat-in-handAnguilla picked up their first victory in the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) 50 overs Competition on Monday, beating St Maarten by seven wickets when the teams met in Bethesda.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, St Maarten were all out for 177 off 42.1 overs. Sherwin Peters fell antagonisingly short of a century on 97. He was supported by Mrinal Wadwha who made 30.

Yannick Leonard and Raymel Adams both picked up three wickets with Leonard bagging three for 20 and Adams snatching three for 31.

St Maarten in reply, was led by West Indies Under-19 player, Keacy Carty who made 92 not out as they reached 181 for three in reply. Delon Skellekie made 32 not out and Montcin Hodge 30 as Anguilla reached their target in 39.1 overs.

Meanwhile, St Kitts defeated neighbours Nevis by 80 runs when they met at the Sir Vivian Richards Ground.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, St Kitts amassed 249 for nine in their 50 overs. Akeem Saunders was best with the bat as he hit 82 runs while Larry Audain and Terrance Warde made 67 and 26 runs respectively.

Nevis fell short in their chase, getting to 169 for eight off their allotted 50 overs. Ross Powell top-scored with 51 runs while Jason Campbell made a cameo 24 runs.

Sheno Berridge did the damage with the ball for St Kitts, claiming four wickets for 30 runs while Elvin Berridge bagged two for 26.

In the other match played on Monday, Montserrat defeated Combined Islands by 40 runs when they clashed in All Saints.

Batting first, Montserrat reached 327 for nine in 50 overs with Dolston Tuitt hitting 81, McPherson Meade reaching 75 and Jaison Peters making 58.

Antigua & Barbuda’s Shaquan Hewlett bagged three wickets for 38 runs bowling for Combined Islands while Joemal Lafleur picked up two for 35.

In reply, Combined Islands reached 287 for five in their 50 overs. Doyle Jones and Samuel Jones made 67 and 64 runs, respectively. Lafleur returned with the bat to contribute 47 runs while Anthony Slowly made 43.

Damion Williams picked up two for 43 and Meade bagged two for 46 both bowling for Montserrat.

In the standings, Antigua & Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis are tied at the top of the table with 14 points each while St Maarten and Montserrat are both on eight points. Anguilla have six points while Combined Islands are on two points.
