So far for 2017, Police have removed 22 illegal firearms from circulation. Of these, nine were seized in the month of May.

Speaking following the most recent finds, Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley said, "The continued success by our officers in removing illegal firearms from our communities is a result of two main factors… intelligence-led policing and an unwavering commitment by our Officers to Citizen Safety."

He is also encouraging more information sharing with the Police Force in order to reduce the incidents of gun related violence.

Queeley urged, "As we continue our efforts, a partnership with the community is essential, and so, I am echoing my call for citizens to get involved in our get the guns off the streets campaign."

The Commissioner noted, "Gun violence must be reduced, and only working hand in hand, Police and Community, we will have the impact that we all want to see.”
