F-1Basseterre, St. Kitts, 6th August, 2017 (MyVueNews.com) - Captured fugitive Kathron "Cuchi" Fortune from St. Maarten has been deported after local authorities discontinued charges against him.

Fortune entered the federation illegally on 29th July, 2017, but was soon captured by a Police Patrol in the Newton Ground coastal area.

In his possession at the time of his capture was a high powered firearm with many rounds of matching ammunition. He also had a large quantity of cured marijuana, as well as some hashish, Police had informed.

According to information provided by local Police, Fortune appeared in the District B Magistrate Court on Friday, 4th August, 2017, to answer to the charges, however, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) dropped the charges to facilitate deportation.

The press release reads in part, “The DPP, having assessed the matter with a view to determine the best course to adopt, determined that our best interest would be served by discontinuing the charges.”

It continued, “Consequently, he exercised the powers so vested in him under section 65 (2) (c) of the Constitution to discontinue the charges. This paved the way for Mr. Fortune's immediate expulsion from the Federation. A deportation order was then sort, and he was deported to St. Maarten later that day escorted by law enforcement officials of St. Maarten.”

Initial investigations revealed his identity and that he was an escaped prisoner since 15th February, 2016.He escaped while serving a 21-year sentence for murder. He is also a Police suspect in other murders on St. Maarten.
