Barbuda to get almost EC$300,000 in relief from U.S.

USAID-Donated-GeneratorsBasseterre, St. Kitts, 11th September, 2017 (MyVueNews.com) - The United States Government has mobilised immediate disaster assistance for Antigua & Barbuda, where Barbuda was devastated by the passage of Hurricane Irma.

 

The hurricane relief is being facilitated through USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) working in collaboration with the Antigua & Barbuda Red Cross.

 

The assistance includes clean-up equipment, hygiene kits, kitchen sets, mattresses and bedding.

 

The Government of Antigua & Barbuda had indicated that 90% of the buildings on Barbuda were destroyed or severely damaged.

 

USAID/OFDA will send team to carry out further assessments to determine the additional kinds of assistance required.

 

According to the information provided by the US Embassy in Barbados that services the Eastern Caribbean countries, USAID/OFDA is coordinating with the relevant disaster officials in the region to provide appropriate assistance.
