Downtown-Basseterre-888Basseterre, St. Kitts, Monday, 18th September, 2017, (MyVueNews.com) - Though most schools, banks and other business places in St. Kitts opened their doors on Monday morning, the approach of Hurricane Maria has caused a gradual shut-down of the islands, from the midday hour.

Residents of the two islands are expected to be impacted by strong winds and deteriorating weather conditions from midnight Monday.

Weather reports indicate that from midnight Monday, to the early hours of Tuesday, 19th September, the islands will be struck by hurricane force winds, as Maria passes south of the country.

All schools throughout the country were ordered close as of 12:00 Noon.

Ferry service between the two islands have also been suspended until the hurricane passes.

Residents have been encouraged to take all precautionary measures and independence activities have been cancelled.
