school-dissertedBasseterre, St. Kitts, 16th October, 2017 (MyVueNews.com) - The occasional but heavy downpour of rain has led to the early dismissal of schools on St. Kitts.

A directive coming out of the Office of the Chief Education Officer instructed primary and secondary schools to be closed early Monday afternoon due to the inclement weather.

Bus drivers were instructed to pick up students and take them to their respective communities around the island.

Since early this morning, several heavy showers, some accompanied by lightening and thunder, have curtailed much of the outdoor activities of schools, including physical education and sports.

According to the Meteorological Office at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, the existing weather, of overcast conditions with light to moderately heavy rainfall, is forecasted into early Tuesday morning.

The Met Office indicates that the conditions are the result of remnants of moisture associated with the recent passage of a tropical wave.

The prediction is for continued overcast conditions with occasional showers and thunderstorms.
