Primary school pupils to compete in Independence Elocution Competition this month

Pupils-PSBasseterre, St. Kitts, 18th October, 2017 (MyVueNews.com) - Primary school finalists for the postponed Independence Elocution Competition are now confirmed to compete in the final on Friday, 20th October, 2017, at the Calvary Baptist Tabernacle, in Sandy Point.

 

The competition was postponed as a result of the recent hurricanes that impacted the Independence celebrations in September.

 

Information provided by the Education Media Unit said the first and second place winners in each of the three competing zones will be attempting to capture first place.

 

The competing schools from the semi-final event are as follows:

 

1. Basseterre Zone: 1st was Deane Glasford Primary and 2nd was Beach Allen Primary 

2. East Zone: 1st was Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary and 2nd was Saddlers Primary

3. West Zone: 1st was Tyrell Williams Primary and 2nd was Sandy Point Primary

 

The finalists will have to deliver Creative, Industrious Youth by Sanjay Caines, a poet and IT technician in the Ministry of Education.

The poem is one of several in Caines’ book entitled Life’s Questions - Come To My Homeland.

The final competition is expected to be keenly contested, and the Ministry of Education is urging everyone to come out and support the pupils is what is termed a patriotic elocution competition.

The Calvary Baptist Tabernacle Church is opposite the entrance to Brimstone Hill.
