Housing-1cBasseterre, St. Kitts, 9th November, 2017 (MyVueNews.com) - As the Team Unity Government ceremonially handed over 14 houses to families, the Prime Minister said the housing program is also about putting people to work.

According to Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris, “This housing program is not just a matter of property ownership, critical as that is to our Prosperity Agenda; it is also about putting St. Kitts and Nevis to work.”

He said the National Housing Corporation, which is overseeing the Team Unity Government Housing Solution program, has put in place 87 contractors, 28 heavy equipment operators, 48 painters, 44 joiners, and 527 workers.

“We are spreading around the work.  Everyone then is being considered important,” Prime Minister Harris said at the ceremony.

Under the Unity Housing Solution Program, about 300 houses are to be constructed on St. Kitts.

Eugene Hamilton, the Minister with responsibility for Housing, said his Ministry will continue facilitating appropriate housing solutions for citizens.

He said, “Our commitment is unwavering when it comes to the welfare of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. We endeavour to pursue elevated solutions that positively impact the overall quality of life for our people. In these homes will be your family, financial investments, and please make room for God.”

The houses are 862 square feet as opposed to the 780 square feet that were previously built under a different housing program.
