2018 budget tops 700 million



Budget-Address-A4Basseterre, St. Kitts, 6th December, 2017 ( - Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr. Timothy Harris disclosed in his 2018 Budget Address an amount of over $700 million to support the plans and programs of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.


Prime Minister Harris laid The Appropriation (2018) Bill, 2017, during the 6th December sitting of the National Assembly.


The Appropriation (2018) Bill, 2017, provides for the services of St. Kitts and Nevis for the financial year commencing 1st January, 2018, and ending on 31st December, 2018.


In presenting the Draft Estimates to the parliament, Harris indicated that the Recurrent and Capital Expenditure are estimated at $706.1 million dollars


Outlining the estimates for 2018, Harris stated, “Our most recent assessment points to the achievement of positive growth again in our economy and the maintenance of a healthy fiscal position in 2018.”


The Minister of Finance continued, “We will endeavour to implement the plans and programs in such a way that the activities of the government yield improvements in the delivery of the Public Service that will benefit all citizens and residents.”


Among the largest allocations are the Ministry of Finance at $221.3 million, Education with $91.8 million, National Security at $75.5 million, Public Infrastructure and Urban Development with $72.8 million and Health at $57.1 million.


Tourism is allocated $27.7 million.
