Local Athletes Begin CARIFTA Campaign

CARIFTA-Athletes-SKNBasseterre, St. Kitts, (Saturday, 7th April, 2012)-Hundreds of athletes from throughout the Caribbean, including St. Kitts and Nevis, are now in Bermuda battling for honours in the 2012 edition of the LIME sponsored CARIFTA Games, that got started on Friday night.

As Day Two of the event began today Saturday, the results have already shown impressive starts for the Kittitian/Nevisian contenders, with two already making it to the finals of their events.

According to officials at the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association, SKNAAA, the team members are in good spirits as they look ahead to the main events.

Renika Daniel and Xavier Francis both advanced to the finals of the 400m Under 17 category with Ms. Daniel running a huge personal best of 55.73 seconds, 5/10ths of a second from qualifying for the World Junior Championships in Barcelona Spain.

Under 17 Shot Put athlete Colin Archibald placed 5th in his final with a distance of 13.95m.

Other team members will be busy during the course of Saturday, also seeking their place in the finals.
