Basseterre, St. Kitts,(Sunday 8th April, 2012)-Team St. Kitts and Nevis on Saturday won its first medal at the 2012 Lime CARIFTA games, after Clairvon Kelly won silver in the under 17 Male High jump.
For St Kitts and Nevis it was a tough day but joy came when he produced a leap of 1.90m, trailing Jamaican Christoff Bryan, 2.05m.
The bronze medal was collected by Bahamian LaQuan Nairn 1.90m. Nathaniel Huggins also of St. Kitts and Nevis finished in fourth place.
Probably one of the coldest CARIFTA games of all time according to reports,Saturday saw Renika Daniel running a personal best time in her semi final heat of the Girls U17 400 Meter Dash when she clocked a time of 55.73sec before eventually finishing in fifth place in the final with a time of 1:00.65sec.
Xavier Corey Francis booked a spot in the boys 400 meter U-17 Final with the fifth fastest time in the semi-final, 52.07seconds. However, he finished in eight place in the final, clocking 53.81seconds.
Participating in his first CARIFTA Games Colin Archibald secured a fifth place finish in the Boys under 17 Shot Put with a throw of 13.95m.
Also in his first CARIFTA, Rico Gumbs placed 17th in the Semi-Finals, with a time of 10.99 seconds.
Meanwhile, Josiah Oyebefun place 12th in the Boys U-17 100 meters Semi Final, with a time of 11.32sec.
Britney Morton also clocked a time of 12.02sec in the Girls 100 meters Final, to finish in fifth place.
Sunday will see Kajon Parris compete in the 800m and will also see a St. Kitts Nevis Team compete in the under 17 4x100meter
