Basseterre, St. Kitts, (Monday 23rd April, 2012)-As employees in St. Kitts prepare for the celebrations of another workers day next month, one of the island’s political parties, is getting set to re-introduce a special calypso show, that once was a regular feature for the long weekend of activities.
The People’s Action Movement, PAM has confirmed that it is now in the final stages of preparations to host what they are calling Calypso Bacchanal, featuring some of the top calypsonians, some of whom have won national crowns throughout the years.
According to an official, the line-up will include King Phonsie, Big Lice, I Soursop, Kinta, Kut, Singing Angie, UnExpected, Forest Ayatollah, Magoo and Socrates.
For this year, said the official, it will not be a competition, just a friendly encounter between great calypsonians with great songs. The possibility of re-introducing the competition however, is one option that is being considered for the future.
The show will be held at PAM Headquarters, at Lockhart Street, on Friday 4th May and will form part of a weekend of events that will also include a May Fair and live music with top soca bands.
However, no word on the once popular queen show, Miss Personality & Marvelous, which has not been held for a few years now and is being demanded by some pageant goers, who would like to see its return to the calendar of May Day or Labour Day activities.
