PADUCAH, Kentucky, CMC – A Christian university bordering the American South and Midwest that has attracted Antiguan students here mainly on football scholarships on Saturday conferred Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer with an honorary doctorate.
Spencer was honoured by Mid-Continent University, a Southern Baptist liberal arts college, for his “work in the development of the people of Antigua and Barbuda, the international community, sports and culture”, the Antigua and Barbuda government said.
A number of Antiguan and Barbudan students have benefitted from football and other forms of scholarships from Mid-Continent University, “whose primary purpose is to provide Christ-centred, quality, higher education,” the government said in a statement.
Addressing over 200 graduates and hundreds of parents and supporters at the university’s commencement day, the prime minister praised the university’s president Dr. Robert Imhoff for the building a relationship between Mid-Continent and Antigua and Barbuda.
