Basseterre, St. Kitts, (Tuesday 15th May 2012)-The growing reputation of St. Kitts and Nevis as a leading tourism destination worldwide has been attributed to the careful planning and execution of strategic development programs, according to top government officials.
Prime Minister of the twin-island nation, Dr. Denzil Douglas, on Tuesday gave his reaction to the recent announcement by US Travel News, that the country was voted #3 Best Island Destination worldwide; #2 Best Caribbean Vacation and: # 5 Most Affordable Caribbean destination.
He said, the amazing feat of the federation, where tourism is concerned, has been the result of “careful analysis and very careful planning”. Douglas also made reference to other top destination awards that have been showered on the country during the course of this year alone.
“It is very important we to understand that we have always known what a remarkable country we have built together. Our people, they are outstanding; our natural beauty is second to none; our capacity for hard work and sound management has been proven; our potential is enormous; and with your help and support, my government that has worked very hard to ensure that the rest of the world sees us as remarkable and worthy of respect and admiration, will continue to transform the destination” Douglas said.
He also made mention of the maritime action plan which will be led by the Minister of Tourism, in order to make sure that the expansion of that sector has the vision, order and oversight required. Douglas hailed the Minister of Tourism, Richard Skerritt, and his Ministry, for the impressive work he said they have been doing in developing the sector.
