Basseterre, St. Kitts, (Monday 23rd July, 2012) - The St Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation has come in for high commendation from the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number 7, where it is located, Dr Timothy Harris. Dr Harris was speaking at a special 30th Anniversary dinner for the Foundation, held at its site at Lower Bourryeau on Saturday, July 21, 2012.Dr Harris praised the contribution of the Foundation to the socio economic life of St Kitts and Nevis. “It is a matter of some delight for me to know that in our small country, in this very location, St Kitts and Nevis, through this thirty year old Foundation is making a remarkable contribution to the health, wellness and wellbeing of people around the world, particularly in the areas of research in Parkinson disease, spinal ailments, cognitive disorders and ophthalmology. The knowledge provided by research is more in the realm of an international public good and we in St Kitts are playing our part”.
Minister Harris further outlined “this Foundation has provided high quality jobs in the application of science and technology and its remunerative package including the insurance coverage should be emulated by other entities. Many have benefitted from tertiary level scholarships and support provided by the Foundation. It is not lost on me, that with a work force of forty two employees this is one of the largest providers of jobs in my constituency.
Dr Eugene Redmond, Yale Professor, and founder of the Foundation was praised for his vision and commitment to St Kitts and Nevis.
The Anniversary Dinner was also attended by the Governor General, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, Ambassador and Director of the Foundation’s Board, Terrence Byron. Sir Probyn Inniss chaired the proceedings. Certificates were issued to long serving employees.
